Sudden Cardiac Arrest
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) affects nearly 400,000 people every year in the United States. Despite advances in medicine, only 9% of people will survive SCA. It doesn't have to be that way. Prompt CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can dramatically improve the chance of survival.
In the United States, on average only 40% of people experiencing Sudden Cardiac Arrest receive CPR before paramedics arrive. As a result, it is a leading cause of death among adults.
The vast majority of Sudden Cardiac Arrest incidents, nearly 80%, occur at home. Often, the first sign of trouble is the person collapsing. Knowing how to perform CPR can be what saves your loved one's life.
More people die from Sudden Cardiac Arrest than lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, motor vehicle accidents and gun violence combined.
